Ramaphosa to Unveil ANC’s Action Plan to Strengthen Local Government

African National Congress (ANC) President Cyril Ramaphosa is set to launch the party’s new Action Plan aimed at improving the performance of local government and delivering better services to communities.

The move comes as the country prepares for next year’s local government elections.

Ramaphosa is currently leading a two-day Special ANC National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting, focusing on the challenges facing municipalities and how to address them effectively.

The meeting will conclude with a Roll Call gathering at Johannesburg’s FNB Stadium on Monday, where more than 6,000 councillors and mayors will account for their performance since being elected in the 2021 local polls.

“The focus of this plan is to strengthen local government. The ANC has developed a draft Action Plan that must be adopted by the NEC. It will consolidate existing strategies and ensure visible progress in fulfilling our commitments in ANC-led municipalities,” Ramaphosa said.

According to him, the Action Plan will clearly outline the responsibilities of ANC councillors, key interventions, and monthly reporting requirements to track progress.

“Once approved, the Action Plan will be shared with our deployees, setting out measurable tasks both within government and the ANC,” he added.

The initiative is expected to improve accountability, service delivery, and governance at the local level—key issues that remain central to voters ahead of the upcoming elections.
